Back when I was a kid, I was the most annoying child when it came to milk. I clearly remember, my mother, running after me with a glass of milk. I swear it was not easy to take even a single sip of milk. I was the kid who genuinely hated milk; it was one of my worst nightmares.
In my childhood days, I always saw my mother finding ways to make me drink milk, Monday it was Haldi milk, then badam milk, then the honey milk and the list goes on. Back then we didn’t have Complan, Bourn vita or Horlicks to satisfy our taste buds, so our mothers used homemade techniques. But no matter what milk just didn’t change, it remained the same tasteless thing regardless of my mom’s endless efforts.
My son Joy also doesn’t like milk. Now that I’m a mother myself, I realize how hard it is to convince your child to drink milk when he doesn’t like it. Although, I can’t deny the fact that Joy shares same hatred as me, towards milk, despite the hatred, I also know that milk is really important.
I’m clueless as to how to make my child like milk; I’ve tried almost everything possible; my mom’s homemade recipes, Complan, Bournvita, Horlicks and everything possible. It just doesn’t work, Joy refuses to drink milk; he is so stubborn.
I remember the last time I brought this Cesar Pista flavored power to be added to milk. At first, I was really happy that Joy has finally started drinking milk, if only because of the flavor, but he is still having milk. Certainly, I was wrong; he didn’t even taste the milk. Every time I kept the glass of milk with the breakfast on the dining table, he used to pretend like- Wow! The milk tastes very good, but as soon as I’m gone, full glass of milk is poured into the nearby flower pot.
The day I saw Joy, pouring milk into the flower pot, I got so furious, I didn’t know what to do next. “What do I do now?” was the question playing on repeat in my mind. And it is still the same, I have no idea how will I ever encourage my child to drink milk or how am I going to teach him the importance and goodness of milk.
